    Cedar Chest

I built this from maple with roble burl veneer on the faces of the diamonds. I used black walnut in the corners as accent. The inlay is a piece of yellow corian resawn to 1/32" thick. Inside is a false bottom covered with red velour and underneath it 1/4" thick foam. I fixed the lock so it could not be locked to keep the little ones from locking their brothers and sister is inside. After staining with a brown maple stain diluted to get the color I was looking for I applied about 8 coats of shellac and then sprayed the same number of coats of nitro cellulose lacquer and hand rubbed the finish. I used a lock mitre joint type joiner to join the corners. No mechanical fasteners in use.
